In this video
- これは臨時列車です。 Kore wa rinji ressha desu. This one is an extra train.
- 臨時列車が来ます。 Rinji ressha ga kimasu. An extra train is coming.
Why this phrase
臨時 on a shop door, as in 臨時休業, means closed today. 臨時列車 on a departure board means the opposite: a train added on top of the regular schedule. Holidays and big event weeks are when the word shows up. Nagoya is busy this week for the Asian Games, but do not claim a specific extra train is running tonight, and do not teach that the regular train is always the crowded one. Skipping the word because "temporary" sounds like cancelled is the mistake. The takeaway is 臨時列車.
