Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Kōfuku ("we", "us") collects when you use the Kōfuku website (kofukujapanese.com) and the Kōfuku app, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions: hello@kofukujapanese.com.
Information we collect
- Account. When you create an account we store your email address and a securely hashed password. We use your email to confirm your account and, if you opt in, to send review reminders.
- Learning activity. To run the app we store the scenarios you play, the phrases you save, your spaced-repetition reviews, and product events (e.g. sign-up, scenario completed, subscribed) tied to your account.
- Microphone / speech (speak-to-reply). When you use the optional "say your answer" feature, your device's built-in speech recognition converts your speech to text — on Apple devices via Apple's speech recognition, and in browsers/Android via the platform's speech service (e.g. Google). We do not record or store your audio. Only the recognized text is sent to our server to check your answer, and it is not retained afterward. The microphone is used only while you actively tap to speak.
- Payments. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Stripe handles your card details — we never receive or store your full card number.
- Push notifications. If you enable review reminders, we store a push-subscription token for your device so we can send them. You can turn them off any time.
- Analytics & advertising. We use Google Analytics to understand site usage, and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Conversions API to measure our ads. For ad measurement we may share a hashed (irreversible) version of your email address together with event data (such as a sign-up or subscription) with Meta.
- Cookies. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and analytics/advertising cookies as described above.
How we use your information
- To provide and run the app and website (your account, scenarios, reviews).
- To send account emails and, if you opt in, review reminders.
- To process your subscription.
- To measure and improve the product and our marketing.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Kōfuku: Stripe (payments), Meta and Google (analytics and advertising measurement, as described above), our email provider, and our hosting and content-delivery providers. Each processes data on our behalf.
Data retention
We keep your account and learning data while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing hello@kofukujapanese.com.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from emails via the link in any email.
- Turn review-reminder notifications on or off in the app's Account tab.
- Decline the microphone prompt — speak-to-reply is optional; you can always tap your reply instead.
- Request access to or deletion of your data by emailing us.
Children
Kōfuku is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
