To say please step back in Japanese, say お下がりください (osagari kudasai).
Everyone on the platform just stepped back at the same time. You did not hear why, and you are the one still standing there.

Why this phrase
A train is about to pass through the station without stopping, and the announcement that clears the platform edge is polite rather than panicked. It ends with a request: 「お下がりください」, please step back. Locals move on those four syllables, so this is a listening cue, not a phrase you will ever say.
