- お盆は、ご先祖様の霊が帰ってくる夏の行事です。 obon wa, gosenzosama no rei ga kaette kuru natsu no gyōji desu. Obon is a summer occasion when ancestors' spirits come home.
- 多くの人が実家に帰省します。 ōku no hito ga jikka ni kisei shimasu. Many people travel back to their family home.
- 迎え火で先祖を迎えて、送り火で見送ります。 mukaebi de senzo o mukaete, okuribi de miokurimasu. A welcoming fire greets the ancestors; a send-off fire sees them off.
- 夜には盆踊りを踊ります。 yoru ni wa bon odori o odorimasu. At night, people dance the Bon dance.
