Why this phrase

Two kanji on a country platform tell you the station has no staff at all. Sometimes there's a little tap pole and your card is fine; out past the IC area there's nothing, and nobody to sell you a ticket. The fix happens on the train, not at the station: when you board at one of these, take the numbered ticket from the machine by the door and hand it to the driver with your fare as you get off. Recognising the word before you board is the whole lesson.
