Why this phrase
On airport and cross-city runs the driver asks 「高速、使いますか？」, shall I take the expressway. He isn't tricking you, he's asking because the toll lands on your bill: roughly a thousand to two thousand yen in Tokyo on top of the meter, and it usually saves you twenty to thirty minutes. So you get two answers: 「はい、お願いします」, or 「下道でお願いします」 for surface roads. Hana plays the driver, Kofuku the passenger.
