Why this phrase
「交番」 is a neighbourhood police box: a small lit building with a red lamp, usually right by a station exit. It is where found property and lost tourists both end up. Two things nobody mentions: it can sit empty for a while when the officer is out on patrol, and anything left on a train goes to the railway lost and found first.
