Why this phrase

「定休日」 is the fixed day a Japanese shop, restaurant or museum shuts every week, sometimes a specific week of the month, and it is printed on the door, on the shop's site and in the Google Maps photos. It is the opposite of 「準備中」: waiting will not help, because the place is not opening later. Read it once while you are planning and you never lose an afternoon walking across town to a locked door.
